Responsibilities
As a Data Analytics Specialist 1, you will be designing, developing, and implementing data science projects to extract, analyze, present, and report information collected through the Geographic Solutions Unemployment System (GUS) and other UC program data sets. Work includes conducting statistical analyses, employing computer automation, and delivering data visualizations to gain insights regarding characteristics and trends among UC claimants, employers, and staff production. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other L&I offices and other agencies on data analysis projects as well as represent the UC Service Centers during intra-agency initiatives and projects. Additional responsibilities include:
- Translating policy and operational questions into analytic project plans
- Identifying applicable data sets and data elements
- Designing scripts and algorithms to compile, merge, clean, and process large data sets
- Communicating findings and results of data analyses
- Developing forecasting models to project trends in unemployment compensation claims for budget, policy, and staffing purposes
- Identifying deficiencies or omissions in data sets or data collection techniques
- Training, coaching, and mentoring other program staff and managers on data analytic techniques, approaches, and methodologies
Requirements
- Successful completion of the Data Analytics Trainee program (commonwealth title); or
- Two years of professional quantitative analytical experience utilizing data preparation, statistical analysis, or data visualization software programs and a bachelor’s degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, data science, economics, actuarial science, geographic information systems (GIS), or a related STEM field (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics); Thirty (30) graduate credits in data analytics or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
