Role purpose

As Product Advancement and Placement Lead, you will use visionary leadership to set the direction for building an integrated, automated and digitized product advancement and placement workflow, which leverages cutting edge data science capabilities for customer centric product development. You will do this by directing a group of team leads that design and maintain solution roadmaps, prioritize capability development across multiple digital product platforms to continuously generate new value. Your group will deliver value thru the development and deployment of novel decision science capabilities in global, enterprise tools. Accountabilities

  • Establish a comprehensive digital strategy for Seeds R&D to enable a robust data-driven product advancement and placement decision-making platform
  • Create and actively maintain a defined strategic vision with objectives and quantifiable success metrics for product advancement and placement digital workflows
  • Orchestrate the delivery of strategic outcomes across multiple solution teams to deliver game changing decision science capabilities
  • Expertly navigate a diverse, complex and global stakeholder community by driving consensus where possible, and making decisive prioritization decisions when necessary
  • Develop and sustain a highly engaged team of genomic prediction and manage analytics experts and foster the growth of scientific and leadership talent
  • Build effective organizational partnerships with Research and Development IT, Analytics and Data Science, Regional Crops, and external experts to continually translate data science, plant breeding and information technology into business value through enhanced analytics and decision making
  • As a member of the Analytics and Data Science leadership team, contribute to the development and implementation of analytics to support company strategies and initiatives
  • Promote a safe work environment and a strong safety culture

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

  • Deep experience in plant breeding and product development and placement
  • Experience with statistics, analytics, data science, machine learning and their application to solve biological problems
  • Experience with analytics, modelling, data science and visualization
  • Knowledge in current agile methodologies, including Scrum
  • Understanding of people leadership and development
  • Portfolio management knowledge in the context of a matrixed, cross-disciplinary organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain complex data to non-experts, are required
  • Understanding of current trends and issues in agriculture R&D

Qualifications


Critical experience

  • PhD or equivalent in Genetics, Plant Science or Plant Breeding or related fields with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience applying data science in a scientific/R&D environment
  • Experience working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated strong record of scientific achievement (publications, patents, etc.)
  • Experience working with the end-to-end modelling process, including problem formulation and model development, calibration, validation, application and deployment
  • Experience in software and seed product development
  • Experience partnering with an IT organization to develop and support software applications
  • Experience creating a strong team environment across a large set of separate agile teams and stakeholders
  • Experience partnering with an IT organization to design, develop and support software applications
  • Experience in change leadership
