Position Overview

The Director of Prospect Analytics, Prospect Development, serves as the data analytics lead of a dynamic prospect development team and will serve as the team expert on models, scores, and tools used throughout the campus fundraising community.

Prospect Development supports the philanthropic success of principal, major, and leadership annual gift officers by identifying, researching, and advancing donors through the solicitation cycle. The department provides prospect research and wealth assessment, builds and maintains the prospect pipeline, manages portfolios and solicitation plans in partnership with campus fundraisers, develops predictive and descriptive models, and performs customized prospect analysis.


  • Conducts full data analysis for strategic projects. Consults with key campus business leaders to gather data and reporting requirements for the most complex business intelligence solutions and analytics. Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary.
  • Designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates complex prospect reports for use by Prospect Development and fundraising units. Designs and leads the production of the most complex forecasts, analyses, reports, data sets, and recommendations to support and enhance business process. Leverages expertise to develop business strategies that determine organizational goals and objectives. Oversees a comprehensive prospect analytics program that provides leadership and strategic vision and planning for campus fundraising donor/prospect research efforts with particular emphasis on supporting principal and major gift development and solicitation, and comprehensive campaign initiatives.
  • Conducts industry benchmarking analysis to identify leading practices, and client performance or capability gaps. Develops quantitative business cases for the most complex business challenges and presents recommendations to leaders that inform the prioritization, sequencing and development of multi-year implementation road maps. Makes recommendations for department vision and long range planning to ensure data sources, methodologies, and processes are chosen and implemented to provide accurate, timely information to fundraising staff on entities with giving potential.
  • Performs expert-level analysis and troubleshooting of the most complex, broad-scope data issues.
  • Evaluates availability and suitability of multiple complex datasets and ensures data integrity and accuracy. Develops and maintain complex analytics, forecasts, data modeling, and reporting to meet desired outcomes.
  • Consults with training staff regarding curriculum development for advanced end user training to ensure competence, ease of access, data accuracy, and optimal performance of BI tools and processes. Assists prospect researchers to develop and acquire skills and abilities related to using analytics tools and reports. Collaborates with technical teams to identify opportunities to leverage technology to facilitate information delivery.
  • Leads teams and committees on strategic business planning. Recruits, hires, trains, mentors and coaches staff on prospect analytics. Oversees training and performance evaluation of team members.
  • Serves as expert consultant regarding business intelligence process design, automation, streamlining, and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of business intelligence functions, advanced prospect analytics, industry standards and best practices. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend innovative improvements to highly complex and impactful initiatives.
  • Highly-advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage highly-complex information, assess processes and problems, and develop effective solutions.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to produce and deliver presentations to diverse audiences and senior leaders. Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Expert skills in statistical analysis, as well as predictive and descriptive modeling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge and skills in internal databases, BI applications, tools, and systems, including R, Excel, Access, and SQL.
  • Highly advanced organizational and project management skills associated with analysis and assessment of information flow and architecture.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills for effective collaboration at all organizational levels, including senior leaders, professional and technical staff. Highly advanced skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution.
  • Ability to serve as an expert technical leader providing high level advice, counsel, and analysis on business intelligence issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise professional staff, assign work, and manage competing priorities.
  • Expert skills in statistical analysis, as well as predictive and descriptive modeling.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures and practices.
